Two shadows cast

Two people. So close that they only cast a single shadow. But then they drift apart. Tear their one soul apart...

The key to you and me

We can only say what we can put into words and what we can put into words is only a fraction of what we could potentially say but, in addition to that, there is more "out there" than we could conceivably say at all, but then again, sometimes, art has the ability to "say" some of that, somehow, at least I think so, insofar as I do, in fact, actually "think" but regardless here I am writing it down for "others", insofar as there are actually others...maybe...I think.

The world-makers curse

A song I wrote about a yin-yang style concept that every action you take in the world necessarily has both good and bad aspects to it.

Key of C

[C]If I had a [G]dime, for every[Am]one of your [G]crimes,
Then [Am]I'd be a [G]poor man in[C]deed.
And if you had a [G]kin for every[Am]one of my [G]sins,
Then [Am]you would be [G]married to [C]Eve.
And you'd be [G]living in a garden of [F]apples and [C] snakes,
[G]Scratching your ribcage and [F]taking long [C]breaks,
Between making things [G]better and making [Am] things [G]worse,
For [Am]that is the [G]world-makers [C]curse.

If you gave me pure [G]gold for every [Am]lie that you [G]told,
I would [Am]have no [G]gold to [C]keep.
And if you [C]had a [G]dad for every [Am]face that I've [G]had,
[Am]You would be [G]Dolly the [C]Sheep.
[G]Made in a lab like a [F]poached egg in a [C]ring.
[G]Surrounded by cameras and [F]machines that go [C]“ping”,
As you make some things [G]better and some [Am]others [G]worse,
For [Am]that is the [G]world-makers [C]curse.

So [C]listen to [G]me before you [Am]go change the [G]world,
I'll [Am]explain how this [G]universe [C]goes,
All [C]causes have [G]effects that [Am]crystal balls don't[G] detect,
What [Am]tomorrow brings, [G]nobody [ ]knows.
Any [G]good that you can be [F]re-used for [C]bad,
But [G]don't let that stop you, or [F]make you [C]sad,
Keep making things [G]better and [Am]making things [G]worse,
For [Am]that is the [G]world-makers [C]curse.

Just keep[C] making things [G]better and [Am]making things [G]worse,

For [Am]that is the [G]world-makers [C]curse.

Pushing String

A bluesy song about life. Is there any other kind of blues?

Key of D

[D]Well a wise man once said to me,
[G]'Son, get your[A]self a [D]plan.',
Yes a [G]wise once said to me,
'Son, get yourself a [D]plan.,
[A]Accept the things you cannot change,
But [G]change the things you [D]can.'

Chorus:
Well, that plan is gone, [C]gone, gone, [G]gone, gone, [D]gone,
Well, that plan is gone, [C]gone, gone, [G]gone, gone, [D]gone,
I'm just [A]sitting here with my friends,
[G]Pushing these strings [D]along.

[D]Better to sing out loud,
Than to [G]hide [A]away and [D]cry,
I said its [G]better to sing out loud,
Than to hide away and [D]cry,
I can't [A]change the world,
But I can [G]sing till the day I [D]die,

(Chorus)

(Chorus)

Melted into snow

I wrote this song about how innocent people get caught up in wars. In this case, the Boer Wars that involved Irish soldiers from the Connaught area where I live.

Snow melts into water. But what melts into snow?

Innocence. Innocence is the stuff that melt into snow.

Key of D

Chorus:
[D]Well he told his love, [G]he would never [A]go,
And she [D]told her love she would [G]always love him [A]so,
But when the [D]war came on the [G]wind,
Even the [D]innocents they [A]sinned,
As their [D]old lives [G]melted into [A]snow.
As their [D]old lives [G]melted into [A]snow.

To [D]Colenso he was [G]sent  in [A]'99,
To [D]fight the Boers and [G]hold the cherished [A]line,
His [D]morality it [G]died,
Gallant [D]medals by its [A]side,
As his [D]old life [G]dissolved into the [A]brine,
As his [D]old life [G]dissolved into the [A]brine.

(Chorus)

For the [D]baronet Burkes she [G]skivvied to [A]remain,
[D]On this earth with [G]heart and soul and [A]brain,
But she [D]took to stealing [G]corn,
When her [D]motherhood was [A]born,
And her [D]old life [G]surrendered wax to [A]wane.
And her [D]old life [G]surrendered wax to [A]wane.

(Chorus)

[D]Two walking sticks, they [G]helped him from the [A]train,
His [D]one good eye spied her, [G]standing in the [A]rain,
A mix of [D]horror, fear and [G]pride,
Two [D]children by her [A]side,
As their [D]old lives [G]tried to begin [A]again,
As their [D]old lives [G]tried to begin [A]again.

(Chorus)
